Everyone I talk to has been asking me how I like this new place - Lucknow.
Well, I really don't know what to say.......
What do I say about a place where the three essentials of existence (in this day and age) : water, electricity and cable TV are mostly unavailable at the same time?!!
What do I say about a place wherein when we have electricity in the room and no water in our taps, I feel thankful because there is even no invertor to save us during power cuts!
What do I say about a place where the ATM machines do not have a UPS backup so when the electricity falters, the card gets stuck inside the machine, only to be returned 5 days later, after a lot of running around and tempers flaring?
What do I say about a place where they rarely accept credit cards at all places, even some good restaurants in the city and expect people to move around with wads of cash in their wallets?
What do I say about a place where everywhere you go, you are told - "Sorry, system down hai" which seems to be true for banking, ticketing et all?
What do I say about a place where every other car has a blue or a red light on the hood and is screeching down the road, without paying heed to other lesser mortals driving on the street like us or to the traffic signals?
What do I say about a place - AND THIS IS THE FUNNIEST ONE - where Domino's Pizza delivers after 60 mins instead of the supposed "30 min delivery guarantee" without giving any type of concession on the order?!!
What do I say about a place where the cable does not show all the channels , even TIMES NOW is missing, because the decoder is spoilt and "Ram hi jaane kab theek hoga"?! I must also add that the contact number given for the cable office NEVER works - I always get either a busy tone or a "NOT REACHABLE" code.
INDEED, what do I say?
I wonder about all those people who swear by this place and wouldn't want to go any other place -- are they blind or naive or both? I wonder what else is in store for me in this CITY OF THE NAWABS.....................
